Hockey Update February 22, 2011
There is plenty of news and topics of interest as the NHL trade deadline nears. The following is just some of the discussion that has peaked our hockey interest.
-
NHL Trades - many teams have made some movement. The most surprising thus far would have to be the Blues moving former 1st overall pick Erik Johnson the the Avalanche. Could be St.Louis just trying to keep future payroll down. They also moved Captain Eric Brewer to Tampa. Other big moves involve James Neal from Dallas to Pittsburgh for Alex Gologoski, and Tomas Kaberle finally to the Cup contending Bruins.
-
Cause of Hockey Trades - Most trades in hockey are made for teams to alleviate cap space. This gives a General Manager room to operate under the cap & have more options available.
-
Brian Burke - Making a lot of moves & correcting some earlier mistakes. Versteeg to Philly & getting some draft picks in a handful of deals to replenish the system.
-
Mario Lemieux - Penguins owner, and hockey great, speaking out against a fight filled game against the Islanders. We are sure the NHL brass doesn't mind as it did make for some great water-cooler talk, and got plenty of hits on YouTube & Facebook. Interestingly enough, the Pens were involved in a recent cheap shot contest against the Capitals in Feb. 19th

-
Playoff Hockey - Minor hockey playoffs are under way. Leaving many parents irate & on the edge of their seats.
-
Great Sponsor - team sponsor Jamie Massie helps PeeWee Hockey Team overcome scheduling conflict with the Quebec Tournament by chartering a private jet. just goes to show that hockey provides great memories and strong values even if a player doesn't make the NHL. Click Here to see related article.

-
Colorado - Have dropped their last 10 games and are a long shot to make the post season.
-
Sydney Crosby - Still suffering from concussion. Penguins will have difficult choice to re-enter him into the line-up & further risk their star player. This may be the turning point forcing the NHL to make stricter guidelines towards head shots.

Josh Bailey - Scores unreal highlight goal, displaying some skills directly taught at iHockeyTrainer.com
